Surgere Contributes Supply Chain Expertise to Supercharge Regional Jobs

Build Back Better Regional Challenge

The United States Economic Development Administration has created a $1Billion regional challenge as part of the American Rescue Plan. This is part of the Biden Administration's Build Back Better initiative. The challenge "aims to boost economic pandemic recovery and rebuild American communities by ‘supercharging local economies with jobs.’"

The Build Back Better Regional challenge is the mechanical means to distribute government funding to local bodies. The intent is to "supercharge local economies" in the way of jobs!

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo states, "The outpouring of interest in this program shows the demand for the Build Back Better agenda and the desire to not only create good-paying jobs but also strengthen our country's economic resiliency for years down the road."

The Ohio MAGNET (Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network) submitted a proposal titled: Northeast Ohio's Advanced Manufacturing Cluster: Smart Manufacturing and Advanced Materials. The proposal is being reviewed for selection and implementation. There are 60 finalists throughout the U.S.

The MAGNET proposal states: The coalition, led by MAGNET: Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, aims to grow an equitable smart manufacturing and advanced materials cluster in Northeast Ohio. The cluster encompasses an estimated 700 firms, 45,000 workers, and a $12 billion Gross Regional Product (GRP).

The coalition's proposed projects aim to bring innovation to the region, especially around smart and advanced technologies, while encouraging innovation and workforce development. If provided an implementation grant, the coalition proposes to execute component projects that expand the applications of cluster technologies into specialized market segments and fortify and improve the region's supply chain through entrepreneurship and capitalization, infrastructure, and workforce pillars.

Surgere's Support of the Build Back Better Regional Challenge

Surgere accepted the invitation to be part of the Northeast Ohio coalition's proposal. The team is comprised of local and regional governmental leaders, academia, technology organizations, and manufacturers.

Surgere brought its expertise in Supply Chain to the team. Our Supply Chain knowledge enabled us to expand the initial concept of product creation and transformation through manufacturing to include product repair, return, and disposal.

How this helps

  • Extends the view of visibility, provenance, and genealogy for the complete end-to-end supply chain

  • Encourages sustainability as part of the creation process

  • Promotes the overall objective to create jobs.

Surgere looks forward to supporting this proposal to success. The result is a win for the Ohio community for years to come.
