This Thanksgiving season, we were honored to once again put Surgere’s energy and community spirit to work at the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank (ACRFB).While food collection drives across the globe tend to spike during the holiday season, Surgere is committed to ending food insecurity all year long.
Surgere has been supporting the ACRFB since 2019. In November of 2020, our Surgere team collected over 400 pounds of food in just 100 hours providing 343 meals for our neighbors in need through the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank (ACRFB). In 2021, our sights are set even higher for the entire holiday season.

Our team set out to the 83,000 square foot distribution center at the ACRFB.
Together, we participated in packing food for families. We bagged bread and pastries, packed coffee k-cups, and organized paper goods like tissues and plastic forks.
In total, we packed 1,391 lbs. of food, equaling 1,160 meals and that was just a few hours of volunteering! We have many more volunteer days ahead of us.
The site director noted our teamwork and obvious enjoyment of being together. It’s true – we always enjoy working together, especially when it’s for a bigger cause.
The real heroes, though, are the employees at the foodbank who keep an organized warehouse and an extremely tight schedule to make sure families and other food banks are getting what they need to fight hunger and feed people.
ACRFB was “formed in 1982 by a group of community leaders who made a commitment to provide emergency food to our neighbors in need. Today, the Foodbank provides food and other essential items to member hunger-relief programs in eight Northeast Ohio counties….” Learn more about the ACRFB by visiting their website.
